Yogi may join Kanwar Yatra

After allowing DJs playing bhajans during the Kanwar Yatra, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath might join the yatra himself on July 24 when he visits Meerut and Muzaffarnagar for inspection.

Sources said here on Wednesday that the Chief Minister would inspect the arrangements for Kanwar Yatra in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar and was likely to join the yatra on National Highway-58 for a kilometre or so.

After the Chief Minister’s office sent directives in this regard, the district administration and police officials have started making preparations for Yogi Adityanath’s visit.

The Chief Minister has directed the authorities to make all arrangements for smooth conduct of the yatra during the holy month of Sawan starting from July 17.

Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to shower flower petals from helicopter on devotees and also monitor the crowded areas during the yatras.

He said that DJs would not be banned during the Kanwar Yatra but they should only play bhajans.

As this year Eid-ul-Adha (Bakra-Eid) and last Monday of Kanwar Yatra fall on August 12, the Chief Minister has asked officials to take proper security measures to ensure no illegal activity takes place on the route of the yatra and to install CCTV cameras in crowded areas.

During a review meeting in the state capital on July 3, the Chief Minister directed the district officials to ensure proper security and safety of the devotees.

“Special security measures should be taken. Maintain the dignity of Kanwar Yatra and devotees. Ensure cleanliness in the area, counsel police staff to behave decently with devotees and ensure safety and security of women during the yatra. All the arrangements should be made on the lines of Kumbh,” the Chief Minister told the officials.

Yogi Adityanath also directed the officials to identify Shiva temples of their areas and ensure cleanliness in the temples.

“Ensure proper drinking water, electricity, security and other such facilities. Make sure there are no liquor shops and illegal slaughter houses near the Kanwar Yatra route or the places where the kanwarias halt.
