Lockdown in Durg from today

Chhattisgarh’s Durg district will see a nine-day lockdown starting from April 6 in view of a spike in Covid-19 cases. The lockdown is set to end on April 14.

An order from Durg Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said the district’s boundaries will be sealed during the lockdown. Only essential services will function.

Durg is one of the worst Covid-hit districts in the state. According to the Health Department, on Sunday 995 fresh Covid cases were detected. Ten died due to the infection, taking the total death toll in the district to 795.

The total number of active cases is 11,550.

The Collector told people that the lockdown was needed to break the chain of spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. He sought patience and appealed to people remain safe at home.

Meanwhile, the police marched through the streets of Durg-Bhilai cities ahead of the lockdown.
