CM seeks report on stubble-burning from 26 dist police chiefs

Taking cognisance of the deteriorating air quality in several places across the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to take all necessary measures.

The chief minister sought replies from police chiefs of 26 districts regarding incidents of stubble burning from October 1 to November 25 in 2018 and 2019.

The district police chiefs have been asked to submit their replies by Tuesday (December 3).

As per reports, replies have been sought from district police chiefs of Shamli, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Baghpat, Hapur, Agra, Firozabad, Hathras, Kanshiram Nagar, Badaun, Moradabad, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Sambhal, Kanpur Dehat, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Lalitpur, Banda, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, Bhadohi, Amethi, Jalaun and Rampur.

In November, the Home department had instructed authorities of 10 districts to file a report on incidents of stubble burning by November 20 .

Meanwhile, the Congress is gearing up to express solidarity with cane farmers who are not getting their cane arrears and are also being booked in cases of burning stubble.

The party has planned a state-wide demonstration in the support of farmers on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in Shamli, a farmer was booked for burning crop residue in his fields outside a village. A case was registered against him on the complaint of a revenue officer.

The district authorities have cautioned farmers against stubble burning, which is a major cause of pollution.
