Farmers Continue To Protest As Cops Foil Attempt To Errupt Pandal

Raipur: Agitating project affected farmers of Naya Raipur, the new capital of Chhattisgarh, have re-grouped for a fresh agitation but the police foiled their attempt to erect a pandal at Kayabandha village but the protesters entered the office of Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA).
Police have detained the leaders of farmers, who have been on an agitation for long demanding proper rehabilitation and compensation to those affected the capital project. Farmers from around Mandir Hasaud, Arang, Abhanpur, and Rakhi had reached the Kayabandh where they tried to set up a pandal for agitation on Friday.
However, the police pulled it down terming it as illegal and took away goods from there. Agitated farmers later reached the office of NRDA to protest, started raising slogans and squatted inside the premises. Later, police reached the spot and removed the protesters.
Farmers are firm on their demands such as rehabilitation benefits, implementation of provision for free allotment of land under Naya Raipur rehabilitation package, payment of compensation four times more than the market rate to all those who have not received compensation under the provisions of land acquisition act.
Grant of patta for rural settlements in Naya Raipur area, fulfilling the promise of allotting 75 percent of shops, commercial blocks and small stalls to project-affected people at actual cost and lifting the ban on purchase and sale of property in Capital project area.
