Thailand’s parliament has elected business tycoon Anutin Charnvirakul as the country’s new prime miner — the third leader in just two years.
He replaces Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was ousted the Constitutional Court last week for ethical violations linked to her handling of the border dispute with Cambodia.

Anutin’s Bhumjaithai Party broke away from the Shinawatras’ Pheu Thai-led coalition and rallied enough parliamentary support to secure the premiership.
It secured over 247 votes in parliament — crossing the majority threshold in the 492-member House of Representatives. His victory still requires formal certification, after which he and his cabinet are expected to assume office within days, pending official endorsement from King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
